When you first hear about face yoga, it’s easy to see it as yet another natural anti-aging technique that helps you remove wrinkles. However, the second we decide to dig deeper, it becomes clear it has a much greater impact on our body that we initially believed. There is more than one face yoga benefit and we’re going to explore them in this post.
Here at Glowinface, we call face yoga a holistic practice because it works on 3 different levels: physical, emotional, and spiritual. Sure, we all first focus on what we see, but we can only achieve a glowing and toned facial appearance if we work from the inside out. Only when we balance all 3 levels, we’ll start radiating health, beauty, and happiness.
If you practice our 15 basic face yoga exercises every day, you’ll notice your body balancing.
Keep in mind that the training is even more effective if you combine it with other spiritual and mindful practices like journaling, meditation, and yoga. Today, I’m going to focus on the physical benefits of face yoga practice – the ones we can see and feel on and within our bodies.
1. FACE YOGA BENEFIT: It’s like a natural facelift
The science behind exercising your face muscles is the same as with those withing your body. If you do regular exercises, your muscles will be stronger, more toned, and lifted. The great thing about face yoga is, it only takes 10 minutes each day. There are more than 50 muscles in our face and neck area, and because they’re so closely connected – you get results faster!
Due to popular belief, we think it’s the skin that needs to be “fixed” to reduce wrinkles and appear more lifted. But it’s exactly the opposite.
Because the skin is attached to the muscles, it follows them once they sag under the effect of gravity. If the muscle is not active, it shrinks in volume like a balloon going out of air. When this happens, the skin does not have a place to lie on, so it wrinkles and sags.
If you want to appear more youthful and have fewer facial lines make sure your muscles are lifted, toned, and have volume. Only in that way, they’ll be able to stay in the previous position and ensure your skin is tight and your face form remains the same. It is completely logical when you think about it, right?
2. FACE YOGA BENEFIT: It smooths out your wrinkles and fine lines
After the first point, you already have some idea of how facial exercise can help you reduce wrinkles. When your face muscles grow in volume, skin can stretch over their surface and smoots out the lines. Because face yoga also improves blood circulation, we also produce more collagen and elastin, which provide the skin with elasticity. This is only of the many face yoga benefits, but it’s crucial because collagen production slows down after we turn 25.
We often look at facial exercises as a “cure,” but they’re also great as a “prevention” method. The sooner we start with our routine, the better. If we start when muscles are still voluminous and in “their place,” we can slow down the aging process, keep wrinkles at bay longer.
3. FACE YOGA BENEFIT: Erases dark eye circles
There are many different reasons why people start forming dark circles under the eyes. They might be hereditary – they run in your family. If this is the case, you most probably had them since you were a child. Also, darker skin types (especially people with olive skin tones) are more prone to darkness under the eyes due to the concentration of melanin cells responsible for your pigment.
But the biggest factor is your lifestyle. If you don’t sleep well, don’t drink enough water, or you’re under constant stress, it will show up under the eyes.
When your body is stressed for an extended period of time, your cortisol levels rise, weakening your kidneys and adrenal glands. Based on Chinese medicine, your kidney energy shows under the eyes. Isn’t that interesting? The more “drained” you are, the darker the area will be. If you want to reduce dark eye circles, make sure you get enough beauty sleep, increase water intake, and start doing face yoga. With the right exercises, you’ll be able to see significant results within weeks.
By doing the exercises, you are stimulating many acupressure points and in that way, balancing kidney energy. Chinese medicine practitioners have believed for hundreds of years that when your kidney energy is balanced, your under-eye area is toned and healthy. And they’re right!
4. FACE YOGA BENEFIT: It reduces puffiness
Puffiness all over the face (especially in the morning) is one of the most common problems women face. If you wake up feeling swollen, it means your lymph circulation isn’t working correctly. All your cellular waste and toxins get stuck in your body, affecting bot your appearance and health.
So it is super important to keep your lymph flowing smoothly. To reduce puffiness, avoid drinking alcohol, and eating dairy. Most importantly, get that lymph flowing with facial exercise. Because of your muscles, facial pads, and skin start moving under the effect of gravity, that creates small “gaps” where the lymph gets stuck. Also, if you have tension in your jaw muscles that can block your lymph nodes and make you look puffy – yes, puffy eyes are no exception.
You won’t solve this problem by just doing one exercise for eye area you found on the internet. You need to engage all the other muscles too. Everything on the face is connected, so make sure you invest in a quality face yoga program that activates every single muscle on the face.
5. FACE YOGA BENEFIT: It gets rid of the skin of impurities
It all comes back to blood and lymph circulation. When those flow smoothly through the body, your cells are going to work better & regenerate faster, “flushing out” all the toxins and cellular waste.
With face yoga, you can make sure your hormones are balanced, and your skin stays clear in the long run. Daily practice can help you reduce blackheads, pimples, and even hormonal acne.
6. FACE YOGA BENEFIT: It reduces tension in the face
We often don’t even realize how much tension we are storing in our facial muscles. We create tension in the face with our emotions, extreme facial expressions, and stress.
Did you know that muscle tension is what causes pain in the jaw, headaches, and even bruxism? Reducing tension is one of the many overlooked face yoga benefits. Since muscle tension slows down blood and lymph circulation, it’s essential to activate and stretch your muscles daily. This will improve blood, lymph, and energy flow through your body.
7. FACE YOGA BENEFIT: It helps combat headaches
A lot of times, our headaches can come from storing tension in our muscles. The frontalis muscle is one of the longest facial muscles and goes all the way from the forehead over the skull. It is connected to occipitalis muscle in the back of the head, which means they cover almost half of the skull together.
We need to release the tension in those muscles by doing facial exercises for the upper part of the face. If you bought our online program, you could use exercises “Cat Eyes,” “Eye Opener,” “Forehead lift,” and “Upper Face Lift,” to do so. They will improve blood flow to the head and stimulate many acupressure and neurovascular points.
8. FACE YOGA BENEFIT: It boosts your energy levels
Face yoga improves your blood and oxygen flow to all parts of the body, from muscles and skin to our brains and internal glands. It also boosts endorphin productions, which are responsible for your energy and mood. There are some great exercises in our Glowinface program, which are so powerful, you can substitute your morning coffee for them. You can also use them during the day when you need to concentrate and be productive.
9. FACE YOGA BENEFIT: It reduces stress
Modern lifestyle makes stress inevitable in our daily lives. Even though stress can serve as a motivator to get things done, we face big problems if stress hormones stay present for longer periods of time.
High cortisol levels are creating an imbalance in our bodies and are affecting both our health, thoughts, and general well-being. The key is to learn how to manage stressful situations and relax properly.
You can only do this by taking time for yourself, your body, and your mind. Yoga, pilates, and meditation are great ways to combat stressful situations, but face yoga is even more potent. Why? Because it works directly with internal glands in your head – Hypothalamus, Pituitary gland, and Pineal gland. To make your facial exercise even more effective, do slow face muscle movements, take long deep breaths, and release tension with every exhalation.
10. FACE YOGA BENEFIT: It helps you sleep better
If you have trouble falling asleep at night, that could be linked to increased levels of a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol is a stress hormone that keeps your body “ready for action” in the wake of a potential threat. Our cortisol levels should be the highest in the morning to wake us up and get us ready for the day and then slowly decline during the day.
If we live in a zone of constant stress, your cortisol levels don’t drop at night. In turn, your Pineal gland doesn’t release a vital hormone needed for sleeping – melatonin.
If you don’t have enough melatonin, your body’s regeneration function will slow down and affect your health, well-being, and appearance. Yes, sleep is one of the best anti-aging and beauty “treatments,” so make sure you get enough of it.
If you have trouble sleeping, do some facial exercises for the upper part of the face before sleeping – while lying in bed. You can perform face exercises in a horizontal position, which helps release tension in the neck and shoulders. We also find that position much more relaxing.
11. FACE YOGA BENEFIT: It improves focus & memory
If you want to improve your focus and memory, the key lies in blood circulation and oxygen delivery to your skull. Try exercises like “Total Face Lift,” “Cat Eyes,” and “Eye Opener” to clear your mind and gain instant focus. Regular facial exercise also keeps your brain active and healthy.
12. FACE YOGA BENEFIT: It improves your eyesight
If you pay attention, you’ll notice that we’ll encourage you to close your eyes and rotate them backward during every single Glowinface exercise. By doing that and training muscles around the eyes, you are improving blood circulation and muscle strength. We have many clients that told us their eyesight improved by practicing face yoga daily. The exercises are great if your eyes are tired after spending hours looking at your computer at work. Do them during your break if you need a quick “pick-me-up.”
